Inspired moments of chartreuse woven into the everyday.

There's something very alive about Chartreuse.

It's the color of light passing through a leaf rather than bouncing off of it, filtered, warm, and a little glowing from within. I think that's why it never reads as harsh in a landscape, even though on its own, it can feel a little too loud.

Chartreuse is a playful color, doting on and popping up everywhere... upon the highlight of an apple or a flickering cafe sign in the city.

It's a color that works best in restraint, which is perhaps why I'm so drawn to it! Chartreuse teaches you to look for the small, bright moment instead of painting the whole scene in it.

When I mix chartreuse for a painting, I almost never use it straight from the tube. It's built from yellows and greens layered together with the palette knife, so the color feels less flat and more like it's glowing from within.

Despite taking center stage in this painting, chartreuse never stands alone. It thrives next to scarlet orange and deeper viridian greens peppered alongside to really sing, the same way a highlight only works because of the shadow around it. Chartreuse is a color that depends on contrast to feel as calm as it does in its natural setting.

In less obvious fashion, chartreuse is an essential color for many finishing touches across my work.

A Play Of Light is one such piece, where flecks of chartreuse find themselves peeking out amongst the main characters.

Once you start noticing chartreuse, you see it everywhere in small doses. And it's often the detail that makes a scene feel especially alive!
